Coordination & Control of Microgrids: A Multi-Agent Platform for Resilient Operation

This week, Dr. Sergio Rivera has presented his recent work on the multi-agent system coordination and control of microgrids for resilient operation at the 2013 Energypath Conference.  This work which was co-developed between the Laboratory for Intelligent Integrated Networks of Engineering Systems and the MIT Mechanical Engineering Mechatronics Research Laboratory represents a new contribution to the application of distributed artificial intelligence to electric power grids towards the promise of resilient smart grids.

Variable Energy Resource Induced Power System Imbalances: Mitigation by Increased System Flexibility, Spinning Reserves and Regulation

Today, Dr. Aramazd Muzhikyan has has presented a paper entitled: “Variable Energy Resource Induced Power System Imbalances: Mitigation by Increased System Flexibility, Spinning Reserves and Regulation” at the 2013 IEEE Conference on Technologies for Sustainability in Portland Oregon. This paper is the second in a series to demonstrate a method for the holistic assessment of power system imbalances given the increasing penetration of variable energy resources. The work is takes the the IEEE RTS-96 reliability test system with data from the Bonneville Power Administration.

Today, Dr. Aramazd Muzhikyan has has presented a paper entitled: “Variable Energy Resource Induced Power System Imbalances: A Generalized Assessment Approach” at the 2013 IEEE Conference on Technologies for Sustainability in Portland Oregon. This work demonstrates a method for the holistic assessment of power system imbalances given the increasing penetration of variable energy resources. Further work on the topic demonstrates the method on the IEEE RTS-96 reliability test system with data from the Bonneville Power Administration.
